About RENU Training Academy

RENU Training Academy Ltd opened its doors in 2016, founded by Gail Smallman, with a clear vision: to provide high-quality, accessible vocational education in Hair and Beauty for young people and adults.

Gail brings over 26 years of experience in teaching and assessing, establishing the academy to create opportunities for learners to gain industry-recognised qualifications in a supportive and professional environment. She has since been joined by Charlotte Walder, Director, who contributes extensive experience within the education sector, strengthening RENU’s leadership and learner-focused approach.

Our Growth & Courses

Since 2016, RENU Training Academy has expanded significantly. What began with Level 2 Hair and Beauty qualifications now includes:

• Level 3 Hairdressing

• Level 3 Beauty Therapy

• Level 3 Teaching & Assessing

We have also recently supported post-16 learners in gaining their CSCS card by delivering the qualification:

• Health and Safety within a Construction Environment

This equips learners with the essential knowledge and preparation needed to successfully pass their CSCS test and progress into the construction industry.

Ignite (Pre-16 pathway)

IGNITE is a pre-16 pathway that blends vocational learning with school education to re-engage learners, rebuild confidence, and create a clear route into post-16 success.

RENU Training Academy is proud to support pre-16 learners through alternative provision delivered within secondary schools across Shropshire and Telford.

We work with students who may struggle in mainstream education and are at risk of becoming NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training). Our vocational pathways help learners re-engage with education through practical, skills-based learning in:

• Hair & Beauty

• Construction

• Vehicle Maintenance

This approach has proven highly successful in rebuilding confidence, engagement, and future career direction.

Ember (Post-16 pathway)

EMBER: Where confidence grows and futures begin.

EMBER is a supportive post-16 pathway for young people aged 16–25, providing small class sizes, personalised coaching, and vocational learning in a structured environment.

It helps learners build confidence, develop key skills, and progress into further education, employment, or a sustained post-16 journey with the support they need to succeed.

Accreditation & Quality

Our programmes are delivered to the highest standards and are accredited by respected awarding bodies:

• VTCT Skills – UK and internationally recognised for Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy qualifications, valued by leading brands and salon chains worldwide.

• NOCN – Specialists in regulated UK and international qualifications, accrediting our Construction, Vehicle Maintenance and Health & Safety courses.
